Holgarama photographs

As an artist, I am constantly challenging myself to create the most artistic and wedding photographs possible.   One of my favorite cameras I commonly use for my Raleigh, NC Wedding photography business is the Holga.  Fully manual, Holgas only have one aperture & shutter speed.  However, the beauty is that each camera is unique in its perfections (imperfections).

I love shooting with this camera because I can intentionally under-advance the film to create a partial overlap of images.  When finished, four or five photographs merge to one continuous image.  These can be shot as panoramas, or can be created over the length of a day from different vantage points.  Numerous examples are shown on my Wedding Website, my Lomo webpage,  Travel Photography website and my Flickr pages.

Above (click photograph to enlarge) is a holgarama of downtown Portland.  The images were all shot in or near, Pioneer Square. Below is another example of a “Portlandramas”.

16 photographs become one, a sort of motion picture through time and space.  Negative space bleeds into the next photograph and merges with the positive space!  It is difficult to visualize, but my experience shooting with this technique have honed my skills. Unfortunately, displaying one of the longer negatives is difficult to do- especially for a small wedding photography blog like this!

Above is a “panorama” of Stonehenge.  The three photographs overlap in two areas to form one image.

The image above was shot at a wedding at Mt. Hood, near Portland.  First, I photographed the bride.  Second, I  photographed the couple.  Finally, I finished by taking a picture of the groom.  Once developed and scanned,  this is a unique wedding photography image that my clients will cherish forever, and truly sets their images apart.     While I can create MOST film effects in the digital darkroom, I prefer to use both film and digital.

Please contact Ryan at (919) 645-8345 if you would like more information on these artistic and unique wedding photographs.
